The London Eye or the Millennium Wheel has a height of 135 metres, which makes it the largest Ferris wheel in Europe. It has rapidly become the most popular paid tourist attraction in the whole of the United Kingdom, visited by over three million people per year. Built in 1999, it was initially the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, only surpassed by the Star of Nanchang in 2006 and the Singapore Flyer in 2008. The London Eye is positioned on the South Bank of the Thames in London city centre, between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge.
